2nd Annual Earth On Edge Celebrates Earth Day 2011 in Coachella Valley
eoe-2-a         For the second year in a row, the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and Coachella Valley Green will be hosting “Earth On Edge 2 at the GreenZone” on Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd.  While certainly not the only Earth Day celebration in individual cities throughout the valley, EOE 2 is the only valley-wide celebration to be held on Earth Day itself.  Besides being a fun get-together for all green-minded valley residents, all proceeds from the feature documentary, art exhibition, silent auction and SCRAPPY Hour reception will go to benefit the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery located in Indio, which has served the people and children of the entire Coachella Valley for the last fourteen years by teaching and promoting the use of recycled materials to create art.

This year’s Earth On Edge 2 at the GreenZone will feature a variety of events for attendees to enjoy.  BegBug_Photoinning at 6:00 p.m. the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery will open their latest art exhibition:  “Bugged—The Art of Insects” that demonstrates that reclaimed and recycled materials can create the most amazing things—including bugs!  Bugs to be displayed are current art projects in local schools.  Also, from 6-7 p.m., a Silent Auction with art donated by local artists will be held along with a SCRAPPY Hour reception.

Then 7:00 p.m. begins the opening night for the newly conceived Green Earth Film Festival (GEFF).  First to be shown will be short films by local schools on environmental topics.  Immediately following will be the feature presentation of “Carbon Nation.”  In wide distribution, this documentary is “an optimistic, solutions-based, non-preachy, non-partisan, big tent film that shows tackling climate change boosts the economy, increases national and energy security and promotes health and a clean environment.”  In other words, “Carbon Nation is a climate change solutions movie (that doesn’t even care if you believe in climate change.)”

The debuting Green Earth Film Festival  (GEFF) is produced by The Natural Science Collaborative (NSC), which is a networking group of environmental and natural science educators here in the Coachella Valley.   GEFF will also be hosting films the neCarbon-Nation-Logo-Finalxt day at the Desert EcoFest@ AquaSoleil—an Earth Day related celebration in Desert Hot Springs.  Films will be shown there all day Saturday  (April 23)  with the feature film to be “Bag It” at 1:00 p.m.   ($2 Suggested Donation to Attend Desert EcoFest)  This year’s GEFF event is considered a “soft opening” for the Grand Debut planned for April 2012.  In addition to feature-length documentaries, the 2012 event will encourage and highlight the production of local small films by valley school students—and showcase the very best to the public.   For more info, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.        While activities at “Earth On Edge 2 at the GreenZone” are free and open to the public, a donation will be taken to support the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery.   The GreenZone is located at 75-181 Mediterranean, Palm Desert  (near Cook & Hovely).  Seating for the movies is limited, so please arrive in plenty of time if you require seating.   Local artists are invited to contribute artwork to the silent auction and everyone is invited.  For more information, contact Karen Riley at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
